Future of Blogs United
“I have to say, though, that I think this year’s conference will be the last one that will be bipartisan. And that is unfortunate.” thus saith Vivian J. Paige
I agree with her that it would be very unfortunate it that were to happen. It was a shame some people felt it was partisan this year and choose not to attend.
Yes, the Republican bloggers did outnumber the Democratic bloggers, but Blogs United is a good opportunity to look past our labels, interact as individuals and realize we don’t have to agree on everything to get along.
A year ago no one would have believed that Greg and Greg could possible get along, yet that is exactly what we all saw this year and have the picture to prove it. One of them is even smiling.
There is also the photo of Vivian and Phriendlyjaime surrounded by three conservatives, and we are ALL smiling.
One of the most enjoyable conversations I had the privilege of hearing involved Mike Hurley, Matthew Clark and Whackjob discussing health care. They agreed on some points and disagreed on others, but the conversation was extremely polite. I have the highest respect for all of these young men. (Yes, I just called Greg young. See what charitable feelings these bipartisan events foster.)
And who would have thought Republitarian and Phriendlyjaime would get along so well. Words escape me. (Greg we need those pictures.)
Those are just a small sampling of examples, involving one blog, of the wonderful things bipartisan events bring about. (This in no way covers all the wonderful people we met or the fun we had. Hopefully we will have more later.)
Had this been a partisan event we would have missed the fabulous speech given by Creigh Deeds. There is no shortage of fund raisers and other events where we can each hear from our own parties. I think it’s good for us to hear from a wide variety of politicians. It helps us broaden our views of what Virginia is and what direction we want to go in.
There were a few tense moments, but I don’t think they can be blamed on partisanship. They had more to do with the personalities of the individuals involved.
The loss of a bipartisan Blogs United would be a terrible thing.
